When should I schedule my newborn photo session?

Newborns are typically photographed between 7-21 days of age. Be sure to contact us to reserve your session early, preferably in your second trimester as our calendar fills quickly. If your baby has already arrived, please get in touch – I will always try to squeeze you in!

How long does the session last?

Newborn sessions generally last 2-3 hours. We begin each session with family and sibling photos, then you are welcome to relax and enjoy refreshments, wi-fi, magazines, and our children’s play area.

Where will the session take place?

There’s no need to clean house when you would rather be snuggling your new baby! All newborn sessions take place at my cozy studio in the heart of Wake Forest. Here I have everything we need for your session, including the beautiful natural light that you love in my photos. With a studio space and light that I know so well, I can guarantee consistent results for your photos, which is so important because you can’t get this time back!

Do you take pictures of the family during newborn sessions?

Of course! I love including family photos – the love and connection you feel with your baby tells an amazing story, and you’ll want to remember it … especially after the sleep deprivation haze wears off!

Do you use props?

In keeping with my soft, organic style, we stock a variety of simple props that add to the photos without taking the focus off of baby. These include bonnets, headbands, wraps, baskets, and bowls.

How do you ensure my baby’s safety during a newborn session?

Keeping your baby safe is my #1 priority during a session! My natural, baby-led posing style means baby is safe and comfortable at all times. I avoid risky poses such as propping baby’s chin on her hands or sitting her upright in the potato sack pose or posing chair. I also ensure baby never comes in direct contact with basket or bowl props.

In the event of illness, I will reschedule your newborn session. I’m up to date on the TDAP vaccine, which is super important since Pertussis (whooping cough) has become more prevalent recently and is extremely dangerous for babies.

Finally, since babies are just learning to regulate their own body temperatures, I keep the camera room at a cozy 80-85 degrees. I may be “glistening,” but baby is warm and comfy! (And don’t worry, our family room stays nice and cool for you when your part is through!)

What should we wear to the session?

Light neutral colors look best in the studio and also keep the focus on baby in your photos. We’ll talk about what to wear during your planning consultation, and you’re welcome to borrow outfits from the studio wardrobe!

Can I add a maternity session too?

Yes, please do! I adore maternity sessions! They’re truly a special time to slow down and reflect on the big changes coming in your life. Our maternity clients have access to our studio wardrobe, and we love to style the sessions in a beautiful and feminine manner.

What is the best time for maternity portraits?

I recommend scheduling your maternity session for between 28-34 weeks. During this time, you’ll have a nicely defined baby bump and be comfortably able to move between standing, sitting, and laying down poses.

Why should we choose Be True Baby?

Be True Baby is a professional, full-service portrait studio that delivers beautiful, custom-designed fine art portraits with an unparalleled client experience. I know that having digital images is important to you, and I also know you’re super busy new parents who may never find time to print those files. That’s why I offer expert assistance with selecting from the best quality fine art prints, albums, frames and birth announcements. Hear what past clients have to say!

What should I expect at my ordering appointment?

Ordering appointments generally last about an hour or so, and our clients find them helpful and fun! We begin with a slideshow of your session images, then sort through printed proofs of the photos to choose your favorites. We discuss album and birth announcement designs and plan out wall displays. We take as much time as you need to answer all of your questions and figure out what works best for your home. With our expert help, I guarantee you’ll love every piece!

How much do newborn sessions cost?

The newborn session fee is $200, and collections begin at $400. Contact us for full pricing information!
